The proposed development of this project is in Handsworth Wood, an inner-city ward situated in the North West of Birmingham with a population of 19,731 which sits within the bottom 10% nationally of deprived areas for Income, Employment and Health. The immediate ward area has a deprived demographic index of multiple deprivation (IMDs), including the cost of housing in the area below the average for Birmingham. The Handsworth Wood ward lies lower in the bottom 20% for; Economically Inactive (27.1%), Health Problems (12.7%) and Ethnicity Asian Total (50.6%) if measured by the English Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) of 7 elements measuring deprivation incorporating: Income, Health, Education, Employment, Living Environment, Crime and Barriers to Housing and Services.
